HOW I SURVIVED A LONG FLIGHT & YOU CAN TOO
My first experience traveling a 20-hour flight was back when I went to Thailand in 2018. I felt extremely anxious days before my trip because I didn’t know how I would survive such a long flight.
The thought of being trapped in an airplane for 20-hours really brought out anxiety I hadn’t felt in a long time.
I asked a few people for suggestions and got so many different ways to cope for a long trip like this but in the end, you truly have to find your own personal ways of preparing.
So what were my methods for surviving such a long flight? Here’s how:
If you’re an avid reader like I am, take books! Better yet, get yourself a kindle so you don’t have to lug around so many books and make packing much lighter.
I finished three books in between my flight there and my flight back. Dive into another world through books during this flight. Trust me, it ends up going faster than you think.
2. COLORING BOOKS
I find coloring very calming which is the reason I decided to take a coloring book on this flight.
Go to your nearest Walmart or if you don’t want to leave the comfort of your home you can order this one to lose yourself while on this long journey.
This is probably an obvious one for most people but I still had to add it to the list. I took my laptop and was able to get a lot of work done that had been sitting around.
There is something about putting your headphones on, being 35 thousand feet in the air, and having a laptop in hand that helps your creativity flow. As I’m typing this, I myself, am 35 thousand feet in the air with headphones off and letting the creativity flow.
4. WATCH MOVIES/SHOWS
A long flight comes with benefits, a huge plane with ample movies and shows to watch.
I’m personally not a movie/TV person but even I dove in and watched a few hours.
5. MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR
Although this doesn’t always work sometimes you get lucky like I did and you meet an awesome neighbor who you have a 4-hour conversation with.
It’s amazing to meet new people from different parts of the world. So if you’re a talker like I am, try to meet your neighbor and get to know them and who knows you may even make a new friend in the process!
So, there you have it, this is exactly how I was able to survive a 20-hour flight while keeping myself sane. Add all of these tips with some sleep in between and you’re sure to make it to your destination anxiety-free.
