7 BOOKS THAT WILL HELP EXPAND YOUR MIND
Us nerds get very serious when selecting the next book we’ll be reading. It can take us days to find the right one. Not because we’re being indecisive but because we want to choose the one that resonates with us the most at the time.
It’s important that we read books that will stimulate and expand our mind. Research as shown that not only does reading improve our memory but it also helps us feel better and more positive which leads to healthy things (of course).
I’ve come up with 7 books, which I’ve personally read, that have helped me not only expand my
mind but also grow as a person. Alright, enough chit chat, here they are:
1. THINK & GROW RICH BY NAPOLEON HILL
This powerful book examines the psychological power of thought and how it can further your career and personal life. In this book, Hill examines forty millionaires and takes a deep look at what made them the men they were. He believed that whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve. In fact, this book, published in 1937, is one of the all-time self-help classics and a must-read for entrepreneurs.
2. THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE BY STEPHEN COVEY
This book was a game-changer for me. This self-improvement book was written on Covey’s belief that in order to change any given situation, we must first change ourselves, and in order to do that, we must be able to change our perception.
In the first three habits, the author highlights self-mastery and moving from dependence to independence. He then moves on to habits 4, 5 and 6 where he focuses on developing teamwork, collaboration, communication skills, and moving from independence to interdependence (more on this when you read the book).
The last habit, habit 7 that is, helps you focus on growth and improvement and along with that embodies all the other habits he spoke about.
Looking to possibly have a change in perception? Well, look no further. Read the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to learn how and start today.
3. RICH DAD POOR DAD BY ROBERT KIYOSAKI
I’m sure a lot of people have probably read this book but I still needed to add it to the list. This book doesn’t dive deep into money and investing but it does give you a good base to start.
Kiyosaki, tells the story of his real father (poor dad) and the father of his best friend (rich dad) and the ways in which both these men helped him shape his thoughts about money and investing.
Reading this book will make you realize that for most of your life you’ve been stuck in a rat race but Kiyosaki gives you the starting tools to try to change the way you view money and how to make it grow.
4. MINDSET: THE NEW PSYCHOLOGY OF SUCCESS BY CAROL DWECK
In her book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, Dweck discusses how your beliefs have the ability to affect whether you reach success or not. She speaks about a theory she formed around two core mindsets that categorize the successful from the unsuccessful: the fixed v. the growth mindset.
She explains the difference between them and why people with the growth mindset always seem to find success while those stuck in the fixed mindset are stagnant in any personal or business growth.
Buy this book and help yourself develop a growth mindset, the mindset that will guide you to success.
5. START WITH WHY: HOW GREAT LEADERS INSPIRE EVERYONE TO TAKE ACTION BY SIMON SINEK
If there is any book I think an entrepreneur should read, this one is it. Simon Sinek, a genius I might add, presents the idea that great leaders inspire others by putting the Why (the purpose) before the How (the process), or the What (the product).
Reading this book shifted the way I saw my business and inspired so much purpose in my own personal life that I ask any aspiring business owner to dive right into this book and allow Sinek to teach them how to be great leaders and find work that inspires them.
6. THE SLIGHT EDGE BY JEFF OLSON
Another day, another life-changing book. In Jeff Olson’s, The Slight Edge, he discusses a new way of thinking. He helps us acknowledge that by making simple daily choices and taking small actions, consistently, we are well on our way to living the lives we desire.
He tells us about his own personal struggle with going broke and how his failure came from forgetting about all the small things he did that amounted to huge results. He reminds us that the small things are truly the most important if we want to lead successful lives.
7. PROFIT FIRST BY MIKE MICHALOWICZ
If you are a new business owner, plan to own a business or already own a business for many years, read this book! It doesn’t matter what level you’re in as an entrepreneur this book is for you.
Profit First is a step by step book where Mike guides us to make our businesses win and grow. He simplifies numbers for those of us who truly don’t understand them. He tells us about his philosophy that it doesn’t matter where you are with your business you must always profit first and the rest will follow.
By profiting first, you’ll find where you’re spending too much, where your money is going, and it even guides you on how to separate your taxes so when payday comes you’re no longer in the red scrambling to pay the government.
I’ve just started implementing Profit First to my own personal business and am looking forward to great success and understanding numbers.
So, there you have it, the 7 books that will help expand your mind. Read a few or maybe all of them and let me know what you think. I’m looking forward to some positive reviews on these recommendations.
